The flu virus changes nearly every year so that’s why it’s important to get vaccinated annually. It is different to the common cold as a person can be extremely sick for up to 3 weeks. Symptoms include high temperature, runny nose, fatigue, headache and dry cough. Most people with influenza are bedbound unlike a common cold. The flu has been shown to cause people to feel very unwell which can lead to lost working days leading to loss of income. In some people with chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma or heart problems it can lead to complications. It is a known cause of fatalities in the elderly therefore all carers should be vaccinated. It is very important also to be vaccinated during all stages of pregnancy.
